Usage of cell instead of neuron. The traditional approach of the terminology by English-speaking countries implies to name different neurons using the word cell. This usage is slighty ambiguous: a neuron is evidently a biological cell, but not all cells are neurons. However, this usage is largely accepted, but many modern languages do not adhere to this practice. The universal terms do not share this tradition and systematically use the word neuron instead of cell. For this reason, three solutions are proposed for English: either to accept neuron in the main term and to create a synonym with cell; or to inherit from the universal formula changing neuron to cell; or to ignore the universal formula and to enter a specific term with cell. The third solution should progressively disappear in favor of the second solution. |
